Summatime

Hard to believe it's June 21st already! It's been two months since the last update, so I thought I'd post on what we've been up to.

We are currently on break from PT and OT for awhile. Not sure how long. Dominic sort of stopped making progress in OT because he's a stubborn 2 year old and just decided he didn't want to do what Sarah ask him to do. As far as PT, because he's walking (or nearly running) everywhere, he doesn't really need a lot of PT. We are STILL waiting on his new AFO. As usual, we run into insurance issues, so we have been waiting for about 6-7 weeks just to get approval. Bleck! So, hoping things get moving on that. His current AFO is falling apart, so he hasn't been wearing it and he's starting to get a more noticeable limp back. It may be time to head back in to see Miss Robin for a little PT soon. We'll see.

We finished up Mitchell's school year and then took a family vacation to Florida for a family reunion. The trips had some ups and downs. Mitchell got really sick and was down for the count for a few days. After a trip to the ER and some anti-biotics he was back to his usual busy self. Then I had a bout of whatever he had - and of course on our anniversary! It was a very romantic evening (note sarcasm). Our trip home was a debacle too with delayed and missed flights, an unplanned stay in Baltimore and more delays. But we did have a great time seeing family, a fun boat ride and playing on the beach and in the pool. It was beautiful weather and some good time as a family.

Fun times on Palm Island!

This week Mitchell started day camp at the Kroc and is LOVING it! Which is a good thing because I signed him up for 5 weeks! But it's only MWF from 9-12. So, we have also put together a Summer Bucket List of things we want to do to fill our days. Summer days with these too can get loooonnnggg. It's always "now what can I do? I'm bored. Can I watch TV?" So, hopefully we've thought of enough things to keep us busy all summer. Can't believe the 4th of July is in just a couple weeks!

Summer fun - coconuts, ice cream and hanging in the backyard
Dominic continues to do great! We are on month 3 of  his Keppra wean, so he's down to 2 ml of Keppra twice a day. In 3 months he'll be totally done! His speech is getting a little better. We finished our speech therapy program, but he will be assuming speech at school this fall. He's using more words and communicating better, but he still speaks in fragments. He has hard time putting words together. So, it's a lot of "More. Water. On. Yeah" - and that's supposed to mean "yes, I want the water on". So, I know what he's saying but it's coming along more slowly than I had hoped I guess I didn't know what to expect after they took out the half of the brain responsible for speech. He'll get there, on Dominic time. Just like everything else.

We saw Dominic's Urologist last week and he decided that since his kidney stones have not changed in over two years, he doesn't feel the need to see him anymore. Especially since he still sees a pediatric nephrologist for the same issue. So, that's good! One less doctor to see!!

That's pretty much what we've been up to! Dominic is LOVING summer and loves to be outside. The boys really get along well and are finally playing more together. We're enjoying filling up the little pool and the backyard, going for walks and running around the playground. Mitchell finished up T-ball and Dominic and I finished our Music & Me class. Mitchell is now onto more swim lessons! We sure know how to keep moving in the Dunlap house! School will start up again before we know it!

Hope you are all enjoying your summers and we continue to thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers after all this time! We have amazing family and friends!
